Sen. Reid: Tax Credits = "Business Pieces of Sugar"
Yesterday the AP headline on the federal minimum wage increase was "Senate Poised to Pass Minimum Wage Bill." But today the story is a little bit different:
The Senate on Thursday was scheduled to pass its version of minimum wage legislation, which contains $8.3 billion in tax advantages for business. A House version passed last month contains no business incentives, and House Democrats have insisted that the Senate tax package be stripped from the final bill.
Asked if the Senate could pass a stripped down bill after the two versions are reconciled in a House-Senate conference committee, Reid said "yes."
"The minimum wage will be increased," Reid said. "The question is do we need all these business pieces of sugar or not. We will see."
