Stanislaus EZ Seeking Expansion
The Modesto Bee reports on the city of Modesto's attempt to expand their new zone:
Stanislaus County's enterprise zone is just six months old, but it's ready to grow by 5,472 acres, county officials say. The original state-designated zone encompasses 67,509 acres in Ceres, Modesto, Turlock and unincorporated Stanislaus County. The report mentions the interesting fact that so far 47 vouchers have been issued for newly hired qualified employees. This highlights the fact that it takes time for zones to come into full usage since employees can only be qualified if they are hired after the designation of the zone. The 19-fold (or 10-fold) increase in the use of the tax credit touted by the California Budget Project should be seen partly in this context. The article does not fail to bring up the CBP report.
