Shocking ... Business Opts Not to Build in California
Earlier I reported on the news that a company had actually decided to relocate into California based, at least in part, on the presence of an Enterprise Zone. Now I've come across news of a California company opting for Oregon's Enterprise Zone despite the fact that they were considering an area in California that also has a zone:
The News-Review - News: Alfa Leisure had planned to stay inside California to open its third manufacturing plant. The manufacturer of recreational vehicles and fifth-wheel trailers had already bought up land outside Bakersfield. However, some issues came up that couldn't be resolved and Johnnie Crean, Alfa Leisure's chief executive officer, opted to look across the border in Oregon.... Because the industrial park is located within an enterprise zone, the company will also receive a property tax waiver for three years. It can qualify for an additional two-year waiver for providing a certain number of jobs in which worker salary and benefits add up to at least $45,000.
